Ashton Keynes Holy Cross Church

Everyone is welcome at Holy Cross, our village church

Established in the 12th Century, Holy Cross is a beacon of Christian faith and worship.

It’s part of the Upper Thames Benefice and Bristol Diocese, together with churches in nearby Cricklade, Latton and the Leigh.

The church is located at North End, just outside of the village, on the B4696 between Cirencester and Royal Wootton Bassett. Its postcode is SN6 6QR.

Current church opening times for private prayer are every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday between 10am – 4pm. We hold four services a month. You can find details for these services in the village newsletter or on the Upper Thames website www.upperthames.org.uk

Our vicar is Revd Canon Debbie Dewes and the Revd Dr Shirley Danby is our associate vicar.

In the community

Our church plays a significant role in village life, and has been doing that for many generations. We have close links with the village school; classes visit the church for RE lessons and other events, Revd Shirley often leads Monday worship and we’ve a lively Open the Book team who share dramatised stories with the children on a Friday morning.

We try to help all those in need across our community; keeping close to those we know are house bound, bereaved or who need help. We also offer Home Communion.

Friends of Holy Cross Church

The church is the only Grade 1 listed building in the village. As with any old buildings, proactive maintenance and repair is essential.

Friends of Holy Cross (FoHC) church supports the maintenance of this amazing village asset, safeguarding its future for the generations to come. FoHC pay for the upkeep of the building’s fabric and have also financed major capital projects like replacing the leaking tower roof and replacing the lighting.

Eco Church

We’ve recently gained the A Rocha Sliver Eco Church award as we’re keen to ensure our church and churchyard are sustainable and have an eco-friendly footprint. Not easy with an eight hundred year old building!
