The incredible story that is told in this film is not one that you would expect to be interesting, but it is. This harrowing tale about the weather and its effects on the war is something that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Who knew a film about weather forecasting could be this gripping? Anthony Maras takes a chapter of history that most films would treat as little more than background information and turns it into a genuinely absorbing drama. It's easy to forget that the success of D-Day depended not only on the soldiers preparing to land in Normandy, but also on the people whose forecasts determined whether the invasion could happen at all. Andrew Scott is outstanding as Group Captain James Stagg, conveying the enormous responsibility resting on one man's judgment without ever overplaying it. Brendan Fraser is equally memorable, giving Dwight D. Eisenhower a humility that makes him feel less like a distant historical figure and more like a leader carrying an impossible decision.
